Based on the Celtic cross, Rosemarkie has been named after a small village on the Black Isle in eastern Scotland. It lies opposite Fort George, across the Moray Firth.
It was certainly settled by the Picts, and they left their mark in the form of more than a dozen carved stones found locally.
